IGNOU courses launched at district jail | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT KATHUA, Feb 8: The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has opened its fourth study centre for jail inmates at Kathua jail. The IGNOU study centre was inaugurated by the Assistant Regional Director of IGNOU Jammu region Sandeep Gupta in the presence of Jail Superintendent District Kathua Bahadur Singh. The two graduate level prog-rammes including BA and BPP were launched and on spot fifty one jail inmates get enrolled for the courses. Speaking on the occasion Sandeep Gupta told that the educational prog rammes are launched by the IGNOU absolutely free of cost as per specially designed schemes for the prisoners and inspite of degree programmes we have lot of diploma programmes also which would be brought as per the demand of the Jail administration. While Superintendent jail Bahadur Singh said that the IGNOU courses are launched as per the jail reform prog-ramme and in order to improve and inculcate the social and moral values among the prisoners.
