HSS condemns hike in water tariff | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 9: Hindustan Shiv Sena (HSS) has expressed serious concern over the steep hike in water tariff both in domestic and commercial establishments. Addressing a press conference here today HSS President Dimpy Kohli, General Secretary G I Singh and Vice President Rajinder Gupta said that earlier domestic water supply charges were merely Rs 30 then increased to Rs 360 and now it has been increased to Rs 800. They further said that a common man is already crushing in the wheels of inflation. So far the quality and quantity of PHE water supply is concerned it is very erratic and poor, they said adding that day in and day out people protest against the scarcity of water. The HSS leaders said that instead of focusing on better and regular supply of water in the affected areas PHE minister is concentrating on tariff hike. It is really shameful act, they added. On the other hand water tariff to commercial establishments particularly the hotels where there is excess usage of water, the tariff has been increased manifold and there is no limit in hike. We have got water tax bills of few hotels like KC Residency, Asia, etc. In the year 2010 the bill of KC Residency was Rs 52560 and in 2011 it was Rs 309746 similarly the water tax of Asia Hotel in 2010 was Rs 40,000 and in 2011 it was Rs 1593600, it is really astonishing and surprising. They appealed the CM to roll back this decision of hike in water tariffs and appeal to the general public not to pay revised hike tariff of water bills. We also warn concerned minister to desist from applying such type of unilateral decision which he wants to thrust upon poor people without applying his mind. |
