G A Mir likely to be inducted in the cabinet
2/10/2012 12:02:31 AM
EARLY TIMES report
Jammu, Feb 9 : In case the Minister for Education, Peerzada Mohd. Syed, is asked to resign following the findings of the Crime Branch in which it has been revealed that the foster son of the minister had been assisted by the senior officials of the Board of School education in getting though the 10th class examination G.A.Mir is likely to be inducted in the council of ministers.
In 2008 Peerzada had submitted his resignation following allegations of corruption leveled against him by an independent MLA, Shoaib Lone.
Lone had, in a letter to the then Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, complained that the Minister had charged Rs.40,000 from him for doing some work.
Reports said that Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, too is in favour of Peerzada to quit the cabinet on moral grounds. According to these reports, the Congress high command may not be in a position to support Peerzada as that would be fully exploited by the opposition not only in Jammu and Kashmir but in rest of the country also, including those states where the Assembly elections were being held.
Reports said that there are already three vacancies in the council of ministers in Jammu and Kashmir and two posts are to be filled with congress nominees. This way G.A.Mir,a former minister is a favorite choice of the party high command.
Mir had to resign as minister after his alleged involvement in Srinagar sex scam. Though he has not been yet found guilty by the court he had to lose the ministerial post. Since he too belongs to south Kashmir and has been a member of the Assembly from South Kashmir his induction in the council of ministers will help the Congress to have representation from south Kashmir, which has been a strong base for the Congress in the past. Reports indicate that the PHE minister,Taj Mohiuddin, has invited displeasure from the central Government for his campaign against the NHPC and for piloting a move for transfer of all the NHPC run power projects to the state Government. Reports said that Taj is under a cloud and if he too is asked to quit in that case the Congress has to fill four vacant posts in the ministry.
