PDF demands for passage of KP shrines Bill | | | agencies Srinagar, Feb 9: Peoples Democratic Front Political Secretary, Shiban Dudha, Thursday demanded from the Omar Abdullah led coalition Government the listing, debate and passage of the long pending Kashmiri Pandits' Shrines and Temples Bill of 2007, a Government Bill eating dust after its introduction in State Assembly. In a statement Dudha claimed said that the non passage of the Bill is helping the land mafia 'who in collusion with a section of corrupt officials of state revenue and police department make illegal transfers of lands and properties appurtenant to temples and shrines of Kashmiri Pandits.' He demanded that a thorough probe must be ordered in all the transfers of temple lands after migration of Pandits out of the Valley in 1990 since already a Government order of 2004 is in place to restrain any sale of temples land. The PDF leader said the non listing of the bill for a debate in successive sessions of Assembly after its introduction as State Bill in 2007 highlights 'how insensitive the Government is towards Kashmiri Pandits for whom the passage of the bill could be a first CBM towards eventual return to their homes.’ He appealed to ruling alliance to have an all party meet on the Bill so that it is passed by a voice vote and not wait for courts to intervene and direct the State on this issue. "This will be an exhibition of political will by political class of State towards the community," he added. Dudha said it was unfortunate that PM's return package was announced in May 2005 and in seven years after its announcement, out of 18 recommendations in the package only Jagati and 1500 jobs have seen light of the day. He assured the Pandit community of full support of PDF in their struggle to survive and they can fully bank on it. |
