BJP, NPP can capture Congress's political space in Jammu provided... | Ending Discrimination -- I | | Neha Jammu, Feb 9: The political environment as it prevails today in Jammu province is very hostile as far as the Congress party is concerned. It is being despised and looked down upon by all sections of society, including the Congress workers. Even JKPCC vice-president and former Cabinet Minister Abdul Gani Vakil has upped his ante and launched a no-holds-barred campaign against whom he term as the most corrupt minister (read Taj Mhi-ud-Din). The Congress is being contemptuously dubbed by the people as the most corrupt formation, a formation whose involvement in corruption is neck-deep. One Congress minister was shown the door several months ago because he allegedly helped his daughter in the MBBS/BDS examination. He was none other than the R&B Minister and MLA from Inderwal, Ghulam Mohammad Saroori. He was removed from the council of ministers after a girl had appeared in MBBS/BDS examination in his daughter's place. Saroori was, and is, very close to Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad. Azad and his men did defend Saroori, but failed. Another Congress minister is in the dock and his ouster from the council of ministers is certain. It could happen anytime. He is none other than Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed. He allegedly helped his foster son pass matriculation examination in 2009. Two teachers, Math and Urdu, did the dirty job allegedly under the directions of the said minister, holding education portfolio, and J&K Board of School Education (JKBSE), thus polluting the pious nation-building department. The Crime Branch submitted its report to the Chief Minister yesterday and the report established the involvement of Peerzada and certain JKBSE officials in the unholy episode. The same minister had been shown the door by Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad 5 years ago, when an independent MLA Shoaib Lone, presently president of Pradesh Youth Congress, openly levelled allegation against Peerzada on the floor of the assembly that he had "paid a handsome amount to him for taking ETT sanction for the college owned by his sister". Yet another Congress minister is in the dock. He is none other than PHE Minister Taj Mhi-ud-Din, a bitter critic of JKPCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and staunch support of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. There are allegations that he has grabbed land at several places in Jammu for himself and for his daughters. The matter has gone to the court and has been widely and prominently reported. Not only this, yesterday, Special Judge Anti-Corruption, Jammu, Pawan Dev Kotwal, directed the SSP, Vigilance Organisation, Jammu, to "verify the allegations of multi-crore scam in the PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department during the tenure of Taj Mhi-ud-Din and take further necessary action in the matter under law". The Judge issued these directions after taking cognisance of a complaint filed by one Jan Mohammad Rishi, a resident of Nowabad, Bathindi. The complaint against Taj Mhi-ud-Din was received by the Judge through speed-post and the court forwarded the same in original to the SSP, Vigilance Organisation. The other Congress ministers, all hailing from Jammu, are, as per the public perception, also "not above-board". There is an impression that they are also "indulging in corrupt practices to make easy money" and that "they have been misusing the policy of appointment, transfer, promotion and posting to amass wealth". In fact, the people want a "high-powered and independent body, not the controversial CBI, to find what was their financial position before they became legislators and ministers, what is their financial position today and which and where they own immovable properties and other assets". To be more precise, they want the "independent agency to assess the financial status of all the ministers and legislators, as well as the value of their movable and immovable properties in and outside the state".
