Grades of Medical College Principals revised, what about upgradation of faculties? | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 9: The State government has issued orders making an upward revision in the pay scales of the Principals of Government Medical Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu. The grade pay of the Principals of State's two government owned Medical Colleges has been increased from Rs. 10000 to Rs. 12000. It is quite baffling that the revision has been done by the state cabinet in isolation of the other Principals like those of the Government Dental Colleges and also that the post of the Principal has been chosen for an upward revision in isolation to those of the faculty members of the two Medical Colleges in the State. It is a strange that the nomenclatures of lecturers, assistant professors, associate professors and professors, a four-tier faculty structure, is still in vogue in the two Medical Colleges of the State. The four-tier nomenclature has since been dispensed with in the rest of the country. Lectures in the Government Medical Colleges of Srinagar and Jammu still draw their salaries in the 9300-34800 with grade pay of 5400 pay band which is much lower than an assistant professor (the UGC designation for college lectures) of a Government Degree College. The Medical college lectures continue to draw their pay in the same grade as the assistant surgeons in the State Medical department. Why were only the Principals of the two Government Medical Colleges chosen for the largesse while the MCI inspection conducted last year to increase the number of MBBS seats in the two Medical Colleges clearly pointed out that the outdated system of designating their faculties by the two Government Medical Colleges was one of the impediments in the MCI approving the proposed increase in the number of MBBS seats in the two colleges? |
