Omar calls on Cong leadership, says 'action' within 24-36 hrs | On fate of Peerzada: | | Early Times Report new delhi, Feb 9: Amid uncertainty over the fate of the Education Minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today left for New Delhi where he is learnt to have met the quarters in Congress that matter with regard to taking decisions in J&K. Omar, however, refused to media in north block over the issue in the morning but confirmed late this evening that 'decision' would be taken soon. Even as Chief Minister Omar Abdullah reached New Delhi to discuss the issue of Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, he refused to speak to media in the morning nor did he divulge any details about his meeting with any quarter including Congress High command with regard to the issue of Education Minister's resignation. Sources however said the Minister would be directed by the High Command tomorrow to submit the resignation to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah once the latter reaches back to winter capital. This was also indicated by the Chief Minister late in the evening when he spoke to a news channel and said fate of the minister would be decided within next 24-36 hours. Reports indicated that after having been briefed by the Chief Minister himself in detail about the contents of the Crime Branch report submitted on Wednesday, the Congress High Command may direct the Education minister to submit resignation to Chief Minister tomorrow. Even as the rumours about the possibility of minister's resignation continued for day two in the corridors of power and outside, both the factions in the Congress camp as well the ruling National Conference maintained silence over the issue. Though some ministers from both the alliance partners came to civil secretariat today, Peerzada did not attend the office today, sources said. Chief Minister is believed to have conveyed about the contents of the report to Congress High Command, to seek further directions in terms of deciding about his fate as to whether in the given circumstances it was mandatory for him to step down or the party high command would itself ask him to do so. Sources said apart from his scheduled meeting with some senior Congress leaders including J&K PCC chief, Prof Saif-u_Din Soz, J&K incharge Mohan Prakash, both Omar and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah are expected to discuss the matter with party president Sonia Gandhi. The main unit of PCC including senior functionaries and leadership of the party have maintained silence which is being seen as 'surprising' with no leader nor any functionary making any statement, rather desisting from making any comment. |
