Congmen in Kashmir worried as party leaders face charges | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 9: With Crime Branch (CB) holding Peerzada's kin and State Board authorities responsible for un -fairmeans case involving Education Minister Peerzada Mohammed Syed's kin and Court asking Vigilance to investigate corruption charges against the PHEE Minister, Taj Mohi-ud-Din the image of Congress Party has been tarnished in the state to a great extent. Congress sources said any action against the Peerzada will be a great setback to Congress in Kashmir as the Education Minister was among few Congress leaders to retain his Assembly seat in 2008 elections despite facing a stiff challenge from National Conference (NC)and opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). "The problem for Congress Party in the Valley is that among the three Congress MLAs who won the 2008 assembly elections in Kashmir one MLA and former minister is facing court trail in famous sex scandal case while MLA Uri and PHE Minister is facing corruption charges and Peerzada’s name was dragged in unfair means case of his kin making the position of Congress party awkward. The party sources term the indictment of Peerzada a great conspiracy to rootout the party from valley and erode its support base there. This is a conspiracy to erode the base of the party in the valley where Congress had improved its ground position after a long time in 2002 elections after party bagged four assembly seats in Kashmir. Out of them three seats were retained by the party in 2008 elections while it lost the Sopore seat to a rival party candidate. But with all three Congress legislators from valley facing problems the party’s future is uncertain in valley, sources said, adding this is a big conspiracy against party and once it gets a setback this time party can’t revive in Kashmir again where it is facing a stiff challenge by PDP. Some Congmen from valley while terming the happenings unfortunate said that party is facing a factional war especially in Kashmir and some of the partymen from North Kashmir have openly criticised the party senior leader and former minister Abdul Gani Vakil and his outbursts against Taj Mohiuddin and demanded his immediate expulsion from the party. Sources said by raking up corruption and other issues against the Congmen the NC is also trying to divert the attention of the public from some serious charges which the party and its own ministers are facing. Congmen are also annoyed against high command which they said is a mute spectator to all happenings in the state. Sources said earlier high command on the instance of Chief Minister forced the then R&B minister GM Saroori to quit in impersonation case involving his daughter and this time it on the recommendations of CM may also sack Peerzada. But what about the mysterious death of a NC worker last year in Srinagar why not the Chief Minister quit the office till inquiry in the case is completed on moral grounds is a question posed by various Congmen to coalition as well as high command. |
