`There is a design behind this campaign' | Maligning Congress Ministers | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 9: The manner and the timing of corruption charges against Congress ministers reflect that there is a design behind it. Although corruption cannot be and should not be condoned, the developments need to be studied keenly. Not two but three Congress Ministers are in trouble. Allegations against them have come to surface at a time when Omar Abdullah completed three years in office. Taj Mohi-ud-Din questions the process. "Only Congress ministers are accused of corruption", he said. The sequence of events also conveys that there is something fishy about the whole affair. Just a day before Omar had to complete three years in office, Health Minister Sham Lal was fixed in a controversy. A leaked police report suggested that he was involved in 'land grabbing'. Interestingly Omar himself heads the Home Department that controls the police. Soon after a report appeared (or was planted?) in a section of the media that Pradesh Congress Committee has been severely affected by the working of its president Prof Saif ud-din Soz. Soz came under attack as he has been contesting Omar's authority. He has opposed Omar's AFSPA campaign and also termed his regime as autocratic. Soz continues to hold office of the JKPCC chief but `invisible hands' tried to malign his image. `Evidence' against Peerzada Sayed was leaked to a section of press after two years of an alleged 'crime' committed by the education minister. And if it was not enough, serious allegations against PHE minister Taj Mohi -ud-din were leveled. Though, Taj has welcomed the inquiry into the allegations but the timing is crucial. The pattern suggests that Omar Abdullah doesn't want to be in the office at the sweet will of the Congress. The ruling establishment controlled by the chief minister is making every effort to disturb the Congress. The purpose is to engage the Congress in 'fire fighting' exercise to restrain them, from seeking the chair of Chief Minister. The timing is crucial as people across the country are up against corruption and it's this tool which is being used by ruling establishment to damage it coalition partner. A senior Congress leader has urged Congress to keep its eyes wide open. |
