| On defensive note Taj says ready to make 'facts' public 'Patting' himself, claims he enjoys 'goodwil' of CM, ex CMs | | Court directions on Corruption charges | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 9: A day after serious charges of corruption were leveled against him, PHE,Irrigation and Flood control Minister Taj Mohid-ud-Din turned defensive contending it was a conspiracy within the party to tarnish his image. He said that some people outside the party are spreading what he termed as 'canard of lies' against him as they fear from his 'rising popularity'. Unnerved apparently over fresh development, the Congress minister claimed that he enjoyed 'goodwill and patronage' of not only the incumbent Chief Minister Omar Abdullah but also latter's predecessors Ghulam Nabi Azad and Mufti Mohammad Sayeed .
"There is a conspiracy within the party going on against me for quite some time……it gained momentum from the day my name was recommended for the post of Deputy Chief Minister", Taj observed while speaking to media in a press conference called by him today to give 'clarification' over the issue. He said he was being targeted and efforts were on malign his image." This is only because of my popularity…..", Taj said adding that attempts of miring his image were intensified as even party high command had acknowledged 'my popularity'.
Coming to the main agenda, the PHE minister rubbished the charges against him and contended most of the points highlighted have not happened during 'his tenure'. However, welcoming the directions to verify the allegations Taj said he was ready to order probe and he has directed the officials to submit all the relevant documents to the inquiry officer in order to make the 'facts' public.
Patting his own back for streamlining working in the PHE department Taj Mohi Ud Din said "every one in the state is witness to a change I am able to bring in the working of these departments yet I am facing allegations of corruption and an impression has been built that i am the most corrupt of all the ministers and heading the most corrupt department".
"I want to clear my name and treat this complaint as a god send opportunity for me to settle the debate once and for all times to come," he said on a confident note.
To back his claims Taj Mohi Ud Din also referred to private statements of former Chief Minister and PDP patron Mufti Mohd Sayeed.
Attending a private party PDP patron once told a group of politicians if I had my way I would have handed over the charge of all the departments to Taj Mohi Ud Din for six months to bring change in the working of these departments.
Talking about his association with Congress Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Taj Mohi Ud Din claimed that when Azad was chief minister he had authorised me to represent him on the floor of the house.
He said working under Omar Abdullah I was recently rated as one of the best performing minister and even my party high command said so. |
