Police cracks down on Srinagar eve-teasers

Srinagar, Feb 10 Acting on a spate of complaints, the Jammu and Kashmir Police are cracking down on eve teasers in down town area of Srinagar.
City Police North, on Friday arrested four persons involved in teasing, taunting and even attempting to outrage the modesty of the minor girls in Khanyar area of Srinagar.
Acting swift on tip off, policemen of Khanyar rushed to Kohn Khan area and arrested four "road side Romeos" who were chasing and trying to molest the modesty of the three minor girls of age around 16 years.
Two out of the four arrested eve teasers belong to far flung district Bandipora.
The arrested road men were chasing the minor girls in tinted glass Santro car.
The arrested eve teasers have been identified as Irfan Ahmed Bhat from Safapora, Rameez Rafi Dar from Ajas Bandipora, Bilal Ahmed Shaikh from Dalgate area of Srinagar and Shabir Ahmed Karnayee from Chandpora Harwan.
The Sub Divisional Police Officer, Khanyar, Tahir Saleem told IBNS that police is very serious about stopping eve-teasing in Sringar city. A top police officer told IBNS that strict action shall be taken against the culprits.
A few days ago, Khanyar police arrested five eve-teasers who were behaving in a way-ward manner in Khayam area of Khanyar.
They were taunting the girls and making obscene gestures stalking the girls in cars and virtually making their tuition places unhealthy and difficult for students.
The arrested were identified as Basit Ahmed Mir (Khalifa Pora), Aijaz Ahmed Dar (Khalifa pora), Owais Ahmed Shera (Akilmir Khanyar) Sharik Ali Bhat. (Baba Demb) and Sameer Ahmed Sheikh from Khanyar locality.
Two Maruti cars in which they were chasing tuition going girls were seized by the police.
Locals have appreciated the police action.
Aisha, a college going girl, was all praise of the cops.
"Eve teasers must be brought to book. They must be punished. There is no reason why they should be given a free hand to tease their 'sisters'," Aisha said.
A trader said that the police action against these eve- teasers is appreciable and "we must encourage them."
