Same yardstick must apply to Omar, Peerzada' | | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 10: The Chief Minister in his tweets about Education Minister, Peerzada Muhammad Sayed conveyed that a public figure must be above suspicion. "Peerzada Syed heads the department about which allegations have been leveled and that fact is inescapable." This is Omar's first tweet. In another tweet he said, "It's the proverbial Ceaser's wife story." There is no denying the fact that morals vary from place to place. Omar and Peerzada fortunately or unfortunately, belong to the same society. Therefore, same yardstick must apply to both of them. Peerzada resigned Friday. Charges of helping his foster son qualify the matriculation examination two years ago were found correct by the Crime Branch. Omar has yet to come clear in Haji Yusuf killing case. Interestingly the sleuth who probed Peerzada also questioned Yusuf on September 29, 2011. Soon after, the long time National Conference worker died. Omar urged Peerzada to leave office. Going by the same logic, Omar should have gone long back in the case of the death of the Haji Yusuf. It was also the classic case of 'Ceaser's Wife'. In fact he is a taller public figure than Peerzada. He is head of the State. Omar refused to step down evens when there was wide public clamour for it. Principles of natural justice suggest that nobody should be a judge in his own cause. But Omar acted like a 'judge and adjudicator.' In doing so his position had become more un-tenable to continue in the office. Even, when it was a classic of 'Ceaser's Wife', the CM refused to go for a CBI inquiry, leave apart inquiry by the State police, and went for judicial inquiry. Such was the ' high moral ground' held by the Omar Abdullah government that the State police vehemently opposed CBI probe sought by Panthers Party in the SC. The announcement of Judicial Inquiry was a clear ploy, to prolong the proceedings so as to continue in the office, though having lost moral sanction to do so. Commenting on 'high morality' held by the CM, the PDP patron had said, "…National Conference has lost the trust of the people and its credibility slumped to a new low after the mysterious death of Syed Yousuf Shah alias Haji Yousuf." "If Omar is so serious on morality he must look into his deeds itself. There should be no gap between words and deeds, said a senior Congress minister wishing not be named. |
