| Special Olympics sports event at Nagrota | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 11: J&K Chapter of Special Olympics-Bharat organizes national sports event of floor hockey at Sainik School Nagrota, Jammu. In this national coaching camp 300 special athletes (the persons with intellectual disabilities) from other states of the country are participating. It is the initiative of special Olympics international to explore the talent of persons with intellectual disabilities as dreamt by Eumice Shriver Kennedy, founder special Olympics international and sister of former USA President John F. Kennedy. J&K Police is collaborating in the national event. Chief guest Vijay Bakaya, member legislative Council inaugurated the national event.
In his inaugural address, Bakaya lauded the role of J&K chapter of special Olympics Bharat for unique efforts for rehabilitation of persons with intellectual disabilities through the medium of sports. He appealed to the general masses and all administrative sections to support such a movement which is revolutionising the lives of intellectually disabled.
Inspector General of Police G. S. Salathia, presided over the opening of national event of SoB.
In his presidential address, the IGP said that under civic action programme, J&K Police is committed to encourage such organizations working with sincerity and commitment.
He complimented SoB J&K for taking lead in this direction adding J&K Police is always on fore-front to extend support to SoB-J&K for such a noble cause.
Group captain, Ajay Kumar, Principal Sanik School, Nagrota termed this initiative of SoB-J&K as the turning point in the lives of persons with disabilities because this movement will give ample opportunities to them to lead a graceful life and extended all possible support to SoB-J&K under the matchless visionary leadership of state president Dr. Ashwani Ojra. Kh. Farooq Renzushah chairman SoB-J&K and Director J&K Information also greeted the inaugural ceremony by his air message from valley in which he said that SoB-J&K is the ray of hope for the persons with intellectual disabilities. |
