Cong asserts by retaining Peerzada as minister | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 11: The Congress party by not accepting the suggestion of the chief minister Omar Abdullah to sack Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed from the council of minister has asserted its supermacy. The party by this action has made it clear to its coalition partner- National Conference- that decision with regard to the functioning of the party can be taken by itself and not by the coalition partner. As things stand now, even though, the Peerzada has been divested of his portfolio of school education, he continues to be the minister, though, without portfolio. The talks are doing rounds that Peerzada may be given another portfolio after the Budget session of the State assembly is over. And it will be also the time when results of the crucial State elections, including UP and Punjab, will be over. The basis of the Congress' decision to retain ministership of Peerzada is based on some important observations and inputs received by the Cong high command. Peerzada in his letter of resignation to the Cong high command had explained to senior Congress leadership that he is being selectively targeted by selective leaks in the media about allegations which had been found baseless by an internal inquiry a year back. The Cong high command was told by the Peerzada that he was asked to go by the CM, more so publicly by his tweets, on the basis of same allegations points to the fact that Cong is being taken lightly in the present dispensation. Another reason, for Cong in coming to the defence of Peerzada was that the party high command had been told earlier that party ministers and leaders are not being taken into confidence by the present coalition government and removing education minister would have further weakend the party position. Taking serious view of the recent development, including allegations against the PHE minister, senior Congress minister will meet party high command soon and apprise party high command about the alleged 'victimisation' of the Cong ministers. The Cong leadership is also un-happy over the fact that CM is now having two additional portfolios from Cong share, including R&B ministry. PHE minister Taj Mohi-ud-din had alreaday said that there is pattern to the way that allegations of irregularities are coming against only Cong ministers. "By backing Peerzada, Cong has taken a right stand and it's also a signal to the NC that in coalition government both parties are equal and Cong is not at the mercy of NC," said a senior Cong minister, wishing not to be named. |
