Jammu's G- X eager to welcome 'Saint Valentine' | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 12: Young boys and girls, in Jammu, are eagerly waiting to welcome 'Saint Valentine' and expresses their deepest feelings to their beloveds , despite some rightist organization warning them to avoid embarking on western bandwagon Groups of boys and girls in large numbers are seen thronging Greeting card Galleries and Gift Shopies to select gifts and Valentine Cards that could, in best w ay express, their feelings to whom they cherish in heart of hearts. In Jammu, like elsewhere in the country, largely, teenagers, savouring western tailored clothes, food and life style, have been taking great fancy to the occasions, which owe their origin to western culture. But since past some years, young married couples are also seen relishing the glamour associated with occasions, like New Year and Valentine Day. Markets adjacent to Satellite colonies of Gandhi Nagar, Nanak Nagar and Trikuta Nagar and main markets of Residency Road, Ragunath Bazar in the old city, as usual, are main centre of celebration and commercial activities related to the forthcoming occasion. These markets present the exact spectacle to the emerging tendencies in local life style. Attractive packages, being offered by restaurant owners, from some years now, add another aspect of attraction to the occasion. Such establishments, in prominent markets, have already started publicising their offers, through print and electronic Media. However, amid the festive atmosphere, threats from some rightist organizations, warning people against participating in the celebrations, are also making rounds. Only a few days back, Ram Sena, an organization, known country wide as the strong opponent of western culture, has already warned people against holding any celebration to mark the occasion. The youth of the city have mixed opinion regarding the occasion. Some are eagerly waiting for the day while others consider it as part of western culture. Gurvinder Kour , a class 12th student said that it is a diabolic conspiracy to introduce alien culture in our country. " It really is a conspiracy of western countries to subjugate the youth of the country through its culture," Gurvinder said and added that it was the duty of the parents to guide their wards against such things. Contradicting her, Riki Sharma said that there was nothing bad in celebrating the day to express love to ones beloved. "If a girl and a boy are in love, they should express it and the Valentines Day is a perfect occasion for that," she however added that it is not necessary to celebrate Valentines day with your beloved only but one can celebrate it with his parents and relatives as well Another University student, Renu Bhan said that what was the need of celebrating the day by presenting red rose to ones beloved when there were so many ways to express ones love. |
