Early Times Report

JAMMU, Feb 12: The decision of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi to rejecting the resignation of Peerzada Mohammed Syed from council of ministers after his indictment by Crime Branch of J&K Police in unfairmeans case of his foster son has rocked the National Conference (NC) circles in the state.
The decision of AICC chief came as a bolt from blue to NC leadership for whom it was unbelievable. Even some senior leaders of the Party could not believe it till they heard it themselves from TV channels. The decision has given a great jolt to the NC leadership as well as the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who was confident of Congress High Command will accept his recommendations and sack the Minister forgetting that Peerzada has more seniority in Congress than the age of Omar Abdullah and the former Education Minister has joined the party when he was reading in the class 11th as a Youth Congress activist under the stewardship of his uncle and a veteran Congress leader Peer Hussam-ud_Din. Both Peerzada and his uncle remained loyal to the party despite facing many odds.
Peerzad's close confidents from his Kokernag Assembly segment in South Kashmir who hundreds are visiting daily from Valley to his residence to congratulate him and show their total solidarity with the Minister said Peerzada's family has been loyal to Congress from the time of Nehru and it was close to late Indira Gandhi as well as former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi . It was the result of this relationship that when maximum congress leaders shifted loyalty in Valley after ousting of Congress government at centre in 1977 and later in 1989, the Peerzada's family remained loyal to the Party.
Having strong roots in the Party the NC men and Chief Minister can't shake Peerada feel his loyalists within Congress also as the Party High Command knows fully by keeping such a loyal people away from government will hit the party interests in the state where the Congress has to face PDP, NC as well BJP and Panthers party at hustings.
The Partymen were jubilant and feel elated after hearing the news that Mrs Gandhi has rejected the resignation of Peerzada. They not only welcomed the decision of the Sonia Gandhi but also lauded Peerzada for taking a bold step by submitting the resignation to Madam Gandhi instead of Chief Minister'
The main party leaders who went to Peerzada to greet yesterday included MP Madan Lal Sharma, former ministers B A Niaz, G M Saroori, Mula Ram and Haji Nissar Ali and former MP Ghulam Hassan commander.
Haji Nissar Ali and Mr Commander were among hundreds of Congmen who today again visited the Peerzada's residence expressing their full backing and support to him. One of the office bearers of PCC told Mr Sayed that entire PCC is solidly behind him and they will not allow any conspiracy to weaken the party in the state to succeed.
Mr Commander and Haji Nissar have also demanded that the Minister should be given the Education portfolio again as he took many steps for the betterment of students and teaching community after he took the reigns of the Department.
They have decided to write to Party High command in this regard as the duo feel that school Education needs a Minister like Peerzada who is easily accessible to people from far flung areas as well.
