Cong asserting now to get back 3 major portfolios from NC | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 12: Even while National Conference has initiated a damaged control exercise to ensure better relation with its ally Congress, the latter seems to be in no mood to respond positively as local Congress leadership including MLAs, Ministers and Member Parliament is up in arms to get back its three important portfolios that are presently retained by NC stalwart and chief minister Omar Abdullah. Highly placed sources in government revealed that "stung by rejection of resignation of Education Minister Peerzada Sayeed by Congress high command, Omar Abdullah who earlier divested Sayeed of the Education Ministry portfolio, now in a damaged control exercise reportedly stated that he continues to be in his cabinet". However, the statement could not change the mood of local Congress leadership, which is fuming against the alleged autocratic style of Omar Abdullah. Besides both the factions of Congress including one of Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and another led by Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC), president Saif-ud-Din Soz putting a united face to counter NC's politics of "divide and rule", the Congress leaders are also learnt to have sent a clear message to Congress high command including party president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and AICC general secretary, Rahul Gandhi to convey the ally NC to take its coalition partner into confidence before taking any decision. "A closed door meeting of both the Congress factions was held here a day ago in which, it was unanimously resolved to convey the NC to work within the drawn parameters of coalition failing which it would not be able to support the recommendations/plans solely made by NC. It was also resolved to first ensure the interests of party and the people of Jammu region who in majority have supported Congress in last assembly polls as compared with Kashmir valley," shared sources in the Congress circles. "Even today during the visit of PCC chief Saif-ud-Din Soz and closed door meeting was held where in the leaders of Soz faction recommended before him for a strong stand against the 'dictatorial' attitude of NC, which they (Congress leaders) apprehended, would hamper the bright results during the forthcoming elections to local bodies," disclosed sources and further added that "they also asked PCC chief to intervene and take up the issue of portfolios meant for Congress and at present lying at the disposal of NC with party high command so that the same are allotted back to Congress." |
