JMC intensifies anti-adulteration drive | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 12: While intensifying its drive against food adulteration, the health wing of the Jammu Municipal Corpo-ration (JMC) has recently booked eighteen defaulters under the provisions of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act, 1954, and the Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. This act is becoming more wide day by day as the cases and people involved in such type of adulterated activities are increasing on a larger pace. Strict actions are being taken against the defaulters. On asking the head of the team of Jammu Municipal Corporation, L M Kapoor said, "The team is inspecting about 120 food establishments, including halwai shops, khoya shops, milk and paneer shops/manufacturers, provision stores, bakery shops, cooked food dhabas/rehris, restaurants, meat shops and tea stalls in the areas of Hari Market, B.C. Road, Bus Stand, Canal Road, Panjtirthi, Kachi Chowani and Jewel Chowk and if we come across any such illegal activity then strict action shall be taken against them". He further added, "Depending upon the amount and quantity of adulterated food, we even charge fine. Recently when we conducted an anti-adulteration drive in the city area, around 55 defaulters were booked under the provisions of the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and the J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs 19,200 was charged as fine from the defaulters". He said, "The Health Wing team also inspected about 200 food establishments in Kanji House, Raghunath Bazaar, Shahidi Chowk, DC Office Road, Hari Market, Panjtirthi and Railway Station areas. We also destroyed about 150 kg of stale food, sweets and meat kept for sale in unhygienic conditions". Another head officer said, "A special check on milk cans was also taken into consideration. In the resent month around 14 milk cans were lifted and samples were sent to laboratory for analysis. Two milk cans found sub-standard were destr-oyed on spot. A fine of Rs 2,200 was realized from erring milk vendors". He said, "The team is also searching for those vendors who are running without license. Besides this, the team also lifted 18 stray animals from Panjtirthi, CPO Chowk, Ambphalla, Manda, New Plot, Paloura, Akhnoor Road, Jewel, Talab Tillo, Railway Road, Channi, Trikuta Nagar, Digiana, Gangyal, Satwari, Nai Basti and Gandhi Nagar. The stray animals were impounded in the Municipal Cattle Pound. An amount of Rs 1,750 was realized from the owners of stray animals as compounding fee, besides Rs 3,700 as action fee". Nearly, 10 kg of polythene carry bags were also seized from the shopkeepers/vendors and the enforcement wing of the corporation also removed encroachments from various places in the city. Meanwhile, on instru-ctions of the Commis-sioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation, the enforcement wing undertook an anti-encroachment drive against such acts in the city. It is hoped that through these efforts only the illegal acts of public against public can be reduced and completely blocked. |
