Residents for better Sainik Colony | | | EARLY TIMES report Jammu, Feb 13: A deputation of residents of Sainik Colony lead by Jai Singh, ex-corporator and Gurmeet Kour Randhawa, President Jan Sewa Sanstha called on Raman Bhalla, Minister Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation and apprised him of the problems of the Society. The residents were concerned about frequent load shedding which is adversely affecting the studies of their children preparing for final examination beginning with effect from March. The problem becomes acute in inclement weather especially severe winter and hot summer. The load shedding is due to lower capacity transformer which is inadequate considering the expansion of the colony. There is immediate requirement of replacing upgrading the transformer. The residents' highlighted lack of basic drainage and sewage system in Sainik Colony especially ward No 70. The remotest and unplanned colonies of Jammu Municipality of Jammu have drainage system whereas the planned and largest colony of Jammu and Kashmir is without basic drains. Due to inadequate drainage the waste water flows on to the roads or adjacent vacant plots. The promises by various govt agencies in the past have not yielded any result on ground. The residents also apprised the minister regarding requirement of rationalising cum re-routing of mini-bus service in the colony and erection of passenger sheds by Municipal Corporation of Jammu for waiting passengers. A passengers shed are the only saving grace for passengers in inclement weather. Raman Bhalla, Minister Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation assured the residents that he will personally look into their problem related to transformer and drainage and assured for early action. The minister spoke to the RTO in the presence of delegation who assured immediate action to rationalise the mini-bus route.
