Coca-Cola supports AIDS prevention society in creating AIDS awareness

JAMMU | JANUARY 18, 2007
J&K AIDS Preventive Control Society (JKAPCS) today organized AIDS Prevention Advocacy Seminar "Know Aids for no Aids" to create greater awareness of the menace. Hindustan Coca Cola Beverages Private Limited partnered JKAPCS in organizing the seminar. Health and Medical Education Minister of the State, Shri Mangat Ram Sharma, the Chief Guest and Labour Commissioner, Mr. Pritpal Singh Betab, Guest of Honour inaugurated the seminar by lighting the traditional lamp.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that HIV-AIDS is one of the most challenging public health problems faced by the mankind. It has already taken an epidemic form in many countries of the world. He complimented JKAPCS and Coca-Cola company for taking the initiative of creating awareness on AIDS and its prevention. The Labour Commissioner, in his address said that need of the hour is to target the most vulnerable section of the society and aim all the strategies towards it.
Speaking at the programme, Dr M A Wani project director of JKAPCS said that mass awareness must be generated about the disease and its preventive measures, which is the best strategy to tackle the menace of the disease. He said that our country has taken the help of various international organizations in fighting this disease and we should exploit this opportunity to the optimum level. Attributing the alarming rate of the disease to erratic sexual behaviour, transfusion of blood etc., Dr. Wani said that the whole society needs to be cautious about the threat of this disease and take preventive measures. He complemented the company efforts in organizing the programme for the benefit of all its associates and staffers.
Mr. Pankaj Thapliyal, Area General Manager of Hindustan Coca Cola, J&K, said, "This program is also aimed to get a resolve from all participants to make all efforts for combating HIV/AIDS." He added that the only panacea for the eradication of this fatal disease lies in its prevention through greater awareness.
Experts on the subject presented papers and lectures on the subject and educated the participants on prevention and control of the disease. Prominent among others present on the occasion were, secretary Health, Sh K B Jandial, and deputy director JKAPCS, Deepika Thakur.
