Opposition silence over Peerzada issue, developments 'mysterious'…! | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
Jammu, Feb 13: With dust appearing to be settling down on the examgate involving the name of senior Congress minister Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed who has been divested of the Education portfolio, both the coalition partners NC and Congress may well br trying to return to normal mode of ties in order to help run coalition smoothly . But what remains a strange and surprising aspect of the whole the controversy that while it raised a storm within the allies, it did not create any whimper, not to speak of any noise nor uproar from the entire spectrum of opposition. Opposition camp right from the principle opposition party PDP to BJP, its split group of 7 expelled members are quite tightlipped over the whole sequence of events related to the controversy , desisting to make any direct or hard hitting comment right from the day the scam of unfair means having been adopted by the minister's son came to fore. Even the smaller parties like J&K National Panthers Party , which in the normal course remains vocal and loud in taking on the government for such lapses and irregularities has maintained silence over the swift turn of events related to the entire controversy. The Kashmir based parties and seasoned politicians like MY Tarigami, who leaves no 'sword' untouched when it comes to hitting out at the coalition or the concerned ally to which the minister belongs, is surprisingly mute over the turn of recent developments which apart from bringing to fore the examgate, also brought to surface the very fragile ties between the alliance partners, disharmony as well as lack of mutual trust and respect, in so far as (mis)handling of the issue by the government is concerned.PDF chairperson Hakim Mohammad Yasin, who even is any ally of the coalition but never maintains silence over the big issues concerning public, has also chosen not to make any comment. While the observers are attributing the opposition silence to a host of factors, the tightlipped strategy of PDP leadership is being seen as a 'calculated' one , of not targeting the Congress as much as they look out for any opportunity to castigate and condemn its rival NC, as the main ruling partner. However, the PDP Patron and former Chief Minister of the state Mufti Mohammad Sayeed known for his political acumen and skills on countering the government, on expected lines did make an comment on Sunday while addressing a rally at Bishnah, that too without touching the main controversy and indirectly hitting out the Chief Minister over the manner he handled the issue. In his terse yet meaningful comment that reflected heavy political connotations ,Mufti only said that recent developments in the state had given further dent to the credibility and authority of the institution of Chief Minister. Silence and a mute strategy adopted by the parties and otherwise vocal leaders in the opposition has surprised many a.quarters in the state. |
