| Four Hizb Militants Killed in Kulgam | | | Srinagar|Jan 18 Four militants belonging to the Kashmir based militant outfit Hizb-ul-Mujahideen were killed late last night by a joint team of police and security forces in Awgam Kulgam in south Kashmir Anantnag district. The operation that lasted several hours began after police cops and troopers of 9 Rashtriya Rifles and 142 battalion Border Security Force, on specific information regarding the presence of militants, laid a siege around Awgam village. Police said that security forces came under fire while house to house search operations were being conducted in the village. Superintendent of Police Kulgam, S P Pani said that the encounter that began when forces retaliated resulted in the death of four militants belonging to Hizbul Mujahideen militant outfit. Police claims to have achieved a major success by eliminating the group known as 'Hamza Group' in the area. Police identified the slain militants as Sheeraz Ahmad Lone alias Muzamil s/o Abdul Gani R/o Ganavsargam, Mudasir Ahmed Dar s/o Mohammed Yaseen R/O Awgam Kulgam, Rayees Ahmad Dar s/o Abdul Rashid R/O Kulporsa and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat s/o Mohammed Yousuf R/o Okay Kulgam. Police said that four AK 47 rifles, 04 UBGL, 21 AK magazines, 212 rounds, one damaged mobile set and four pouches were also recovered from the site of encounter. During this encounter, that lasted till midnight, joint residential house of Ama Dar son of Satar Dar, Abdul Rashid Dar son of Salam Dar and Mushtaq Ahmad Dar son of Ama Dar was completely damaged. |
