'Jammu region denied free participation in political structure of JK' | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 13: The ills that afflict Jammu region stem from the fact that it is systematically denied free and fair participation in the political structure of J&K., said Jammu State Morch president Prof Virender Gupta. The undue weightage given to Kashmir region in the State Assembly and Lok Sabha, coupled with the appeasement policy pursued by the Centre Gover-nment towards Kashmir, at the cost of Jammu region has put Kashmir in a politically dominant position. Due to this, Jammu and Ladakh regions are being treated as colonies of Kashmir, he added. He was addressing a meeting of the residents of Talab Tillo. Among others the meeting was addressed Nathu Ram Gupta, Surjeet Singh, Divender Singh Jamwal, V.D.Dogra and Parveen Sharma. The speakers highlighted the discrimination being meted to the people of Jammu region in the last about 65 years. They said that representation of Jammu people in Civil Secretariat is merely 20% where as it is only 30% in overall state services. The ratio of unemployed youth in Jammu province to that of Kashmir province is 70:30 where as the government, the State as well as Centre is deeply concern about the generation of employment opportunities in the Valley, neglecting Jammu region. They narrated that all the 13 corporations of the state are in the Valley drawing hundred percent employments from there. Even most of the main offices of the Centre Government are located in the Valley. The expenditure on the development activities is merely 25-30% in Jammu region as against 70-75% in the Valley. |
