Jatin lifts men's singles' title inPolice Martyrs Badminton C'ship

UDHAMPUR, Feb, 14: Outplaying Anish Gupta by three straight sets in the summit clash, Jatin Sethi lifted the 1st Police Martyrs Memorial Badminton Championship, which concluded at Indoor Badminton Complex Udhampur, here today. The tournament was organized by the Udhampur -Reasi Range Police under Civic Action Programme.
Inspector General of Police Udhampur- Reasi Range, Jagjit Kumar was the chief guest on the occasion.
Deputy SSP Udhampur, Shakeel Ahmed Beig, Staff Officer to DIG, Nasir Ahmed, Dy SP, Bodh Raj (Nodal Officer), Dy SP (DAR), Suram Singh, Officers of Youth Services & Sports Department including Bushan Sethi, veteran players, prominent citizens and number of sports lovers were present on the occasion.
On the concluding day, the last match above 19 to 45 Men's Single category was played between Anish Gupta and Jatin Sethi which was won by Jatin Sethi by defeating his competitor in all three sets.
Harash, Miss Alchi, Anish Gupta, Ekta Allachawal, Aditya and Partner, Jatin and Sudhir Manhas, Arun Mehta and Sunil Singh Slathia WERE declared winners in under-14 boys, under-14 girls, under-19 boys, under-19 girls, under-19 boys doubles, above-19 men's doubles, above-45 double respectively.
Budding shuttler, Puranjay Sharma who remained state badminton Champion in under-10 years category was also honoured on the occasion.Speaking on the occasion, DIG said that holding of this tournament was a step forward to remember the supreme sacrifices of brave police martyrs and to encourage the sports culture for healthy society, besides to strengthen the police public relationship.
The DIG said that the championship was organized with the technical assistance of the Department of Youth Services and Sports and was held under the auspices of Badminton Association of India. He said that as many as 167 badminton players from the district Udhampur and Reasi participated in this championship under different categories.
Dy SP, Bodh Raj presented vote of thanks on the occasion.
