Bhajan Sopori's Santoor recital concludes J&K music festival | | | Early Times Report
KATRA, Feb 14: Music Legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori mesmerised people at the Cave shrine of Mata Vaishnodevi in Trikuta hills in Jammu and Kashmir with his renditions on the Santoor on the last day of SaMaPa Aalap Festival. The premium classical, Sufi and folk music festival of Jammu and Kashmir concluded with the divine notes of Bhajan Sopori along with Abhay Rustum Sopori and Sufi vocal by Ragini Rainu at the newly setup Mata Vaishno Devi Spiritual Growth Centre here. The concert started with Sufi vocals by young songstress Ragini who presented Baba Bulle Shah's "Ke Bedarda Sangh Yari" and Kabir Bhajan "Ras Gagan Gufa" composed by Pt Bhajan Sopori. Ragini, who represents the Sufiana Gharana of Kashmir, demonstrated a strong base of classical gayaki embedded with fluency, aesthetics and expressions. This was followed by the concluding concert of the festival featuring duet Santoor recital by "King of Strings" Pt Bhajan Sopori and young Santoor maestro and composer Abhay Rustum Sopori. They presented Raga Patdeep with Aalap and Jod, and compositions in Ektaal and Teentaal. Pt Sopori made the audience sing with him explaining the nuances of classical music. The 7th Annual SaMaPa Aalap Festival was presented by the Sopori Academy of Music And Performing Arts (SaMaPa) in collaboration with Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and State Tourism Department. |
