Rulers stealing people's money to build fortunes: Mehbooba | Haji Yusuf case made CM politically and morally weak | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Kupwara, Feb 14: People's Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti Tuesday said that the members of ruling coalition were busy lining their own pockets at the cost of public exchequer. Addressing party workers of Kupwara district here today she said, "The rulers are only creating personal assets from the money meant for roads, electricity, water and employment generation. They are building palaces from the money stolen from the poor of this state." Mehbooba said more than Rs 30 thousand crore have been received by this government in the last three years apart from the funds under Prime Minister's special package and Asian Development Bank schemes started by the previous government. She said the money supposed to build roads, provide electricity and provide employment to the youth but have fattened politicians only with money and luxuries. “Not only can their children pass exams through organised cheating but they get world's costliest luxuries while the children of ordinary people are treated with bullets, atrocities, police cases and humiliation," she added. The PDP president claimed that the National Conference has historically treated the state as a private property and the present government under its leadership is the worst even by its own standards. Mehbooba said while the poor homeless people in the state crave for a roof over their heads, the leaders whom they trusted with their vote have amassed so much wealth that they are now transferring it to foreign countries. "Some have villas in Dubai while others have mansions and commercial properties spread over Europe and America not to speak of Srinagar, Jammu, Delhi or Himachal Pradesh," she said Expressing concern at the development freeze Mehbooba said no new initiative or scheme had been introduced in its three year 'misrule.' "Government of India has repeatedly censured the state for its inability to execute the centrally sponsored schemes that have benefited other states immensely but left J&K almost untouched because of the strong vested interest in the government. The exposure to suspicion in Haji Yusuf case has made the chief minister extremely weak, both politically and morally, resulting in bad governance going worse." Mehbooba added. Other senior party leaders also addressed the meeting.
