Kashmir-bound stranded passengers protest in Jammu | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, Feb 14: Hundreds of Kashmir-bound stranded passengers today protested at the General Bus Stand as the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed for the second consecutive day due to fresh snowfall. About 200-300 Kashmir bound passengers including women and children stranded at the Bus Stand staged protest and demanded air lifting to the their destination. Condemning authorities for not taking appropriate steps and making necessary arrangements for them the protestors alleged that hoteliers are charging hefty rates from them in view of blocked National Highway. Meanwhile Senior police officers rushed to the spot and pacified the situation, assuring early redressal of their grievances. It is to mention that there is no respite from the fresh snowfall and rains at the Jawahar Tunnel, Banihal, Patnitop, Kishtwar and Bhaderwah following which the road clearance operation has been suspended. Police sources said that around 700 vehicles including 475 trucks en route Srinagar stopped at different places along the NH-1A. |
