New twist to Bedi Commission probe | Reshi smells foul, says never asked to depose - - Bhat awaits return of political pay-off, avoids service | | Bashir Assad SRINAGAR, Feb 14: Sayed Muhammad Yusuf death row Tuesday took a new twist when prime witness in the case Ab, Salam Reshi denied having received any information about deposing before the Justice (Rtd) Bedi Commission probing the mysterious death case. Pertinently, Justice Bedi Commission Monday issued order saying that Mohammad Yousuf Bhat and Abdul Salam Reshi, the two senior NC workers who are key witnesses to the incident being probed were served notices by the Commission but the notice server has reported that both of them are not traceable and their present addresses are unknown. "The process server has also submitted a report that Mohammad Yousuf Bhat was not traceable and was residing at an unknown place. The summons sent to Abdul Salam Reshi have been returned with the report that he had been away from his home for the last two months and was living in Jammu and his address was unknown. It is obvious that repeated efforts to serve Mohammad Yousuf Bhat and Abdul Salam Reshi have not succeeded as they are avoiding service and although they have been served by affixation, it would still be appropriate that they be served by publication as well, as they are the most material witnesses of the incident. However, Salam Reshi today belied commission saying that he was never served a notice to depose before the commission. " Though I am out of my home for last one month or so, but I was never served a notice". Salam told Early Times. Reshi who hails from Kokernag area of Anantnag district said that he smells foul and is apprehensive as to whether the Commission has any credibility. When asked whether his family members back home were sure that the commission has not served any notice, Reshi said, I never received any such information either through the members of my family or by other means". Reshi who had paid 35 lacs to deceased Sayed Yusuf for getting berth in legislative council, alleged that the commission has no credibility under the given circumstances. "When you could talk to me on phone and ascertain the facts, what prompted commission not to contact me on phone" said Reshi. Meanwhile, sources said, that another important eyewitness in the controversial Sayed Yusuf death row, Muhammad Yusuf Bhat was under tremendous from the financers whom Bhat owes 85 lacs which he had handed over to the deceased Sayed Yusuf as political payoff for induction in the council of ministers in NC led coalition government. Sources said Manzur Ahmad Rather (contractor) had paid 52 lac rupees to Bhat from his own pocket and he had also borrowed 14 lacs and 16 lac respectively from other two persons which he had again handed over to Bhat who in turn paid a hefty amount of 85 lac rupees to the deceased Sayed Yusuf for getting berth in the council of ministers. Bhat, added sources, owes another five lac rupees to his security guards. Sources further added that Yusuf Bhat who hails from Ganderbal constituency being represented by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, was evading the Justice Bedi Commission as he was still hopeful that NC party shall return him the hefty amount. Sources said, some NC leaders have committed to return 85 lac rupees to Bhat which was preventing him (Yusuf Bhat)to depose before the commission. Sources added that Both Reshi and Bhat met here today at some unknown place to discuss the future course of action. Salam Reshi confirmed that they met and discussed all the pros and cons of the case adding further that they will soon convene a press conference to unveil the truth. Meanwhile, Commission Monday granted time to the Chief Minister, his political Advisor Devender Rana and Minister of State for Home Affairs Nasir Aslam Wani for filing their response to the counter-affidavit filed by family of the deceased. |
