Cong set to get back Edu portfolio: Chib may get as addl charge till reshuffle | Ministers, leaders asked to keep up 'show' of unity | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 14: In a significant development post Peerzada Sayeed 's resignation , Congress is all set to get back the vital portfolio of Education that was retained by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah three days back soon after he divested the former of this charge. Minister of Higher Medical Education RS Chib is likely to be given this portfolio as additional charge temporarily till a formal reshuffle and overdue exercise of expansion is effected . NC shall retain one more important portfolio of R&B for now as a heavyweight of Congress in New Delhi is eyeing for this to be given to GM Saroori to whom it was allotted at the time of formation of cabinet . Sources said that Congress High command has given a nod for the portfolio of Education to be given to Mr Chib temporarily till reshuffle that will see complete revamping of the portfolios and some even new faces from within both Congress as well as NC. The reshuffle and expansion is learnt to have been planned now by middle of March. Sources said even though the party leadership has been asserting on getting back all the three major portfolios of Power, R&B and now Education, no decision has yet been taken as to whom the charge would be give. Sources said initially there 'emerged' a proposal this be given to an independent ally Ghulam Hassam Mir but it has not materialized as a strong lobby is insisting it to be retained by the Congress minister only, even though Mir is also said to have himself lobbied for this portfolio. Pertinently, in the aftermath of Peerzada resignation not having been accepted, the party stalwart who has a clout in High Command is also trying hard for re induction of Saroori on the ground that latter had to quit almost on similar charges. However, no decision has been taken as yet on that too, sources said adding that in order to give a strong message of meaning 'business' Congress ministers have been asked to assert and keep asserting as equal partners on policy matters and matters of governance. Sources said Congress ministers who were hitherto divided in two factions and have lately starting putting up a united face, have been 'instructed' to keep up the show of 'unity' , particularly in tomorrow's cabinet meeting which assumes quite a significance in the aftermath of Peerzada issue related developments. The developments which mainly saw non acceptance of resignation of Peerzada as minister by the High command and consequent direction to Chief Minister to allow his continuance has seen both the allies drifting apart, the NC nourishing grouse that it has affected the credibility of both party as well the Chief Minister as head of council of ministers. |
