Special Olympics floor Hockey Sports event concludes | | | Early Times Report
JAMMU, Feb 15: The 7-day Special Olympics sports event featuring floor hockey sports concluded at Nagrota, here today. As many as 300 special athletes with intellectual disabilities drawn from all states of the country participated with the assistance of 100 coaches under the overall guidance of national trainer, M M Khurram participated in the sports event. The national level coaching camp for floor hockey was organized by J&K chapter of Special Olympics Bharat with the motive to explore the talent of the youth with intellectual disabilities through the medium of sports. The Special Olympics involving intellectually challenged children across the world is the brain child of Eunice Shriver Kennedy. K Rajindra Kumar, Additional Director General of Police, Armed, Law and Order J&K attended the ceremony through web phone. Inspector General Armed G S Slathia was chief guest on the occasion, while Director J&K Information Department, Farooq Renzushah who is also chairman Special Olympics Bharat J&K presided over the closing ceremony. Padamshree and Eminent Gandhain S. P. Verma, renowned international Painter Anuradha Rishi, were the guest of honour on the occasion. G S Salathia, IGP Armed said that it is our proud privileged that J&K armed police has taken initiative to support the noble events under civic action programme and assured that it will continue to extend its help for the same in future as well. In his presidential address, Kh Renzushah said that special Olympics Bharat has given new turn to the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities which was a rare dream for them and their helpless parents and guardians. "I feel proud that special Olympics movement in J&K state is flourishing under the dynamic and visionary president-ship of Dr Ashwani Jojra I wish that it will go on to attend the unattended in remote areas" he added. He called upon the society to come forward to make the life of such children better. He said that people from different walks of the life should hold camps for these children and provide them an opportunity to get acquainted with different shades of human activity. He said such initiatives would help these children to get better exposure and face the changes of the life. Padamshree and Eminent Gandhain S P Verma, was felicitated by the special athletes of all states of country for the great honour with which he was decorated. Guna Rajindra Reddy president GGF Andhra Pradesh was also special invitee on the ocassion. Group Captain, Ajay Kumar, Principal Sainik School Nagrota who was also guest of honour, in his address said that his management and staff feel enthralled while supporting noble efforts of Special Olympics Bharat-J&K. "I am highly motivated and inspired by tireless efforts of state president of SoB-J&K, Dr Ashwani Jojra who is an able leader to lead SoB movement in the state" he added . Capt Ajay Kumar also presented seasonal clothing's to Dr. Ashwani Jojra for slum children adopted by SAHYOG India. Among others present on the occasion included, Squaden leader Dominic Reyen Registrar SSN. Dr D R Kapoor chairman Sahyog India, Mr. Rajesh Gupta president J&K Fruit Association, Mr Rakesh Mathawan, Secreetary and Mr. Sham Langer president Vegetable Association. Earlier, Dr. Ashwani Jojra State President special Olympics Bharat J&K presented welcome and keynote address. He said that SoB-J&K is committed to reach to every corner of the J&K state to elevate the status of intellectually disabled persons and their families by encouraging them through the medium of sports which was a dream of Eunice Shriver Kennedy, under the able guidance and support of National Chairman Airmarshal (Retd) denzin Keelor, National Director Syed Ali Kazim, National Sports Director, Mr. Victor Vaaz. On the occasion, SoB-J&K honoured Sham Sunder Sharma, superintendent of Armed Police, Parveez Sajad, SHO Nagrota for extending great philanthropic support to the cause of SoB-J&K. The SoB also felicitated all ACTP coaches and athletes with certificates. Lalit Kumar, Area Director compared the proceedings and supervised the events. Chief Patron SoB-J&K Minister for Youth Services and Sports, J&K conveyed his blessings and greetings from Cuba, for successful conduct of the national event. |
