JAMMU, Feb 15: Jammu and Kashmir Police is organizing Inter Battalion Sports Tournament-2012 at Jammu from February 21. The five day long tournament would have varied disciplines to be played at different venues in the winter capital. This was disclosed during a meeting held at Armed Police Headquarters here today, which was attended by various police officers and was chaired by Inspector General of Police (Armed), Jammu, Gulzar Singh Slathia. The events included in the tournament are basketball, volleyball, football, handball, tug of war, boxing, wrestling, weight lifting, swimming, shooting, hockey and kabbadi. Some field and track events including marathon, shot put, hammer throw, javelin throw, discuss throw, long jump, and high jump would be part of the tournament. A Large number of players and athletes representing various units, including the officers would excel in the events which also include badminton, table tennis, lawn tennis and shooting. Giving further details, Slathia said that the events would be played on knock out basis as per the rules laid down by All India Police Sports Control Board. Women players and athletes are also participating in various events being played at Gulshan Ground, Jammu University, District Police Lines, School Kunjwani, Officers Mess and Sunjwan. During the meeting various committees were constituted to make the necessary arrangements for the tournament. Slathia stressed upon the participants to coordinate with each other to conduct the tournament in a befitting manner. He said that all necessary arrangements for lodging and boarding of the players should be made well in advance. A Police Sports Control Room would be established at Police Sports Stadium Gulshan Ground Jammu. Among others, the meeting was attended by DIG (Armed) Jammu, K K Saini, Commandants, Amjad Parvaiz Mirza, M A Kenu, Shyam Sunder Sharma, Bupinder Singh, Punkaj Maghu, Jehangir Khan, Rafiq Ahmed Vakil, Ravinder Singh, M S Panu, Anita Sharma, Randeep Kumar, Sports Officer, APHQ, Jameel Anjum and other police offices. |
