Vjay Club enters QF via sudden-death

JAMMU, Feb 15: Vijay Club entered the quarterfinals of the 3rd Sher-e-Kashmir Gold Cup Football Tournament by defeating the football club of Jammu and Kashmir State Power Development Corporation (JKSPDC) via sudden-death after both the sides failed to score in the stipulated time at GGM Science College Football Ground, here today.
Though, both the teams made some good moves, yet none of them succeeded in scoring a goal in the allotted time and the result of the match was left to penalty kicks, wherein Vijay Club prevailed over its rival by four goals to three (4-3) via sudden death.
Earlier, Hayat of JKSPDC continued to play dangerously after shown yellow card twice, forcing the referees to show red card to him for foul play, making his omission from the team for rest of the match.
During the penalty kicks, JKSPDC goalkeeper showed extraordinary motor ability and skill and stopped a blinder from Vinay of Vijay Club to put pressure on them. However, Rakesh, Dhananjay, Mohit Verma and Suraj kept cool and gave their side a much needed lead by pelting splendid goals. For JKSPDC, Omar, Aquib and Tahir succeeded in converting penalty kicks into goals.
Earlier, in the first match of the day, Bhagat Singh Club got walkover against Churchill Brothers to move into the pre-quarterfinals.
The match was officiated by the penal of referees including Rajeeb Deb, Deepak Sangral, Vijay Kumar and Rajesh Kumar, while the tournament is being organized by Youth National Conference, under the auspices of Jammu and Kashmir Football Association and under the overall supervision of Surinder Singh Bunty, organizing secretary.
In tomorrow's fixture, Young Heroes shall lock-horns with Bhagat Singh Club in the pre-quarterfinal at 11 am, while JKP-A shall take on Vijay Club in the quarterfinal at 1 pm and Param Football Club shall face J&K Forest at 3 pm at the same venue.
