OSC, OBC Communities opposes backward class Status to Paharis

jammu, Feb 15: The members OBC Mahasabha and Sain Samaj Jammu today opposed the move to grant reservation to Pahari speaking people under Socially and Economically Backward Class (OSC) category while warning the government to launch a massive protest if any move to dilute the backward class status granted to 26 social casts of Jammu and Kashmir would be taken by the government.
Addressing the meeting Kasturi Lal Basotra state president, OBC Mahasabha showing his anguish said, "it is an attempt to reduce the share of OBCs by Pahari speaking people that will not be tolerated as the masses belonging to these communities would make strong protest against the State government if any such move would be taken by government".
He further said that the some people with vested interests trying to take a share of the reservation benefits available to marginalized communities and ride upon the established procedures and set practices to grant OSC /OBC status to Paharis.
He appealed J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the proposed move is against the marginalised group and OBC communities so it should not be considered.
He appealed the government to withdraw the resolution passed under the chairmanship of chief minister in which Pahari Board aimed to grant OBC/OSC status to Pahari speaking people.
He said some influential groups in Pahari Speaking people are trying to get the OBC/OSC status on the name of Pahari language so that they may secure certain benefits.
While speaking in meeting Abdul Qadir said, "OBC status cannot be granted to Pahari Speaking People as there was no provision for grant of OBC status on linguistic basis as per the judgement of 1992 on Mandal Commission Report-1980".
He further said, "Paharis was neither weaker section and nor they are listed as community in any of the revenue records. They are people belonging to affluent ruling class comprising of Rajputs both Hindu and Muslim, Barahman Mahajan, Syed, Malik, Mirza, Kashmiris".
Others who were present in the meeting included Hussain Baksh Subnia, advisor, Rattan Lal Chargotra ex-president Pardesh Vishwakarma Sabha, Ajudhiya Kumar Manawa, president Prajapati Sabha, Vaishno Dutt Dogra, president Kashyap Rajput Sabha, Abdul Rashid, chairman Dhobi Welfare Community and Bansi Lal convenor.
Those who spoke included Abdul Qadir, Talib Hussain, Mohd Rashid, Raj Kumar Sodi, Suresh Kumar Dogra, Kamal Kishore Bhardwaj, Mansa Ram, Manohar Lal Tidyal, Romesh Chander Angotra, Milkhi Ram, Chuni Lal, Anil Kumar, Mohd Sharief and Mohd Akram.
