132 KV tower constructed at Drabdshala Kishtwar under PMRP collapses | DC Kishtwar seeks report | | Early Times Report
kishtwar, Feb 15: In a fresh example of sub standard work in Jammu and Kashmir, 132 KV tower No 189 constructed by contractor Gulzar Ahmed Mattoo on behalf of KEC International at Drabshala collapsed late last night within few months of its construction. As per the reports the said tower was a part of upcoming double circuit 132 KV transmission line project costs Rs. 200 cr sanctioned by the government of India under PMRP to provide better electricity supply to four grids viz Ramban, Banihal, Gandoh and Kishtwar and accordingly the contract was allotted to KEC International for construct of 50 MVA Grid Station each at Kishtwar and Gandoh, beside laying of 132 KV special line that will connect all the four grid stations with Baghliar power project. While the grid stations at Ramban and Banihal has been completed, but the work on grid station at Kishtwar has been delayed over by three years resulted into the escalation of costs in project. The collapsed tower also caused the damage to 33 KV Kishtwar-Darbshala transmission lines. The reports said that the estimate cost of the collapsed tower is about 15 lacs. When contacted Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Hussain Malik said that after receiving the information about the incident, he had seek a detail report from the concerned department and said that only after receiving the final detail the further course of the action as applicable under law will be initiated against the culprits. Meanwhile the people in Kishtwar district demanded an independent probe against the contractor and JE involved in passing the bills of the contractor despite the fact that sub standard material was used in construction of the foundation of the said tower. The locals said that the said project sanctioned by the central government under PMRP is a prestigious project for the people of Kishtwar district in terms of up gradation of electricity supply to Chenab region including Kishtwar District. |
