Botanical Garden inaugurated in GDC, Samba | | | Early Times Report
SAMBA, Feb 15: Basantar Nature Club, Government Degree College (GDC) Samba in collaboration with WWF-India J&K and Department of Social Forestry, J&K, inaugurated the botanical garden in the college today under the National Environment Awareness Campaign, programme of Ministry of Environment and Forest, Govt. of India. The theme of NEAC-2011-12 is "Forests for Sustainable Livelihood". More than 400 plants belonging to different indigenous species were planted on the occasion by the students and teachers of Basantar Nature Club, officers from Social Forestry Department J&K and WWF-India J&K. The layout and design of the botanical garden was based on different themes like Rosary, Arboretum, Avenue plantation, plants of different families and generas, Pinatum, Bambosetum, etc. After the plantation in the Botanical garden the Nature Club organized an inter-college symposium on the theme "Forests for Sustainable Livelihood". During the symposium, Dr CM Seth, Chairperson WWF-India J&K was the Chief Guest, Ashwani Gupta, Regional Director Social Forestry; Forest Department J&K was Guest of Honour. Gulab Nabi, DFO Regional Forestry Kathua, Manager J&K Bank Samba prominent NGOs and Teachers from several schools were also present. More than 400 college students, teachers of college, Two NGOs and 30 Eco-Club teachers of district Samba also participated in the symposium. |
