PDP lambasts government for step motherly treatment to border areas | | | early times report Rajouri, 15 Feb: Senior PDP leader Shahzad Khan lambasted the present coalition government for its step motherly treatment towards the border areas of Rajouri and Poonch. Khan had earlier conducted a tour of snow affected areas to take a stock of ground situation on account of the recent snowfall in the area and the condition of the people thereof. In a press release Shahzad has criticised the government's negligence towards the provision of essential commodities as well as relief to the people victimised by natural calamities. Khan has urged the state Govt. for providing free ration for at least six months to the people of erstwhile border Distt of Rajouri-Poonch as the crops have been damaged due to heavy snow fall in the entire region.Shahzad said the no authority from the government or the civil administration visited the snow hit areas of the district and people are suffering due to the negligence of the government and its agencies. It is sad that the Chief Minister and the concerned ministers visited almost all the affected places but no authority came to Rajouri or Poonch to listen to the woes of the people, he said. It is more unfortunate, said Shahzad that despite the show off tours by the authorities, relief work is only in papers and nothing is being made available on ground. The Government announced free ration for three months in snow and drought affected areas of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban areas during the year 2011-12 under special package. This part of the state is totally ignored and neglected and is being given a step-motherly treatment not only in developmental activities but also in providing relief and essential commodities during such calamities. The poor people living in the remote areas are fighting a war of life and death. They don't even have access to the highways due to snow and the government is doing nothing. People in the remote areas of Rajouri are not getting the essential commodities and the government is watching silently. The Government in the last three years had announced relief to the people when hardships caused by drought or rain or snow had hit the area but till date nothing has fallen into the hands of the people. Shahzad asked the government to extend immediate relief to the people in snow hit areas and also ensure through its agencies the availability of ration and other essential commodities to the people. He further said that the government should take immediate steps for and connectivity, restoration and uncut supply of electricity, clean drinking water among other things. Shahzad khan has threatened to go on hunger strike in case immediate relief is not provided to the people. Others who accompanied were Mohd Sayeed, Nadeem sheikh, Zakaullah, Barkat hussain, Haji Ghani, Shabir Mirza, Mohd Iqbal and others. |
