Nailing the tainted 'Babus': Amendment in Services Act in offing
2/16/2012 12:16:06 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 15: The Jammu and Kashmir government is learnt to have been contemplating on bringing an amendment in the existing State Services Act to nail tainted officials including IAS and IPS officers involved in corrupt practices.
The decision-if taken in the forthcoming budget session-would come as a landmark as it is learnt that government has collected secret report against number of officials including state cadre as well as certain IPS and IAS Babus.
Sources in government indicated that government is contemplating to bring an amendment in services act by brining a Bill in the forthcoming Budget Session in the Legislative Assembly. "The significant move has surfaced here in the state following the decision of government of India, which has notified a rule making it compulsory for IAS, IPS and officers from other all-India services to retire in public interest if they fail to clear a review after 15 years of services," disclosed highly placed sources in the government.
The Centre's notification further include that "Officers adjudged as inefficient and non-performing will be shown the door and even those who make the cut will need to remain on their toes as they face another review after 25 years of service or on turning 50, whichever happens first".
"If such a Bill is brought in the Assembly and gets a positive nod, the corrupt Babus and police officers will not be able to clog the government any longer," shared sources further adding that
"As no notification of centre can directly be incorporated in the state's constitution and it has to take the root of seeking majority in Legislative Assembly as well as Legislative Council, so if the coalition partners (NC and Congress) agree over the issue, the Law Department would be directed to complete its home work in this regard before the start of Budget Session."
