PDP asks Govt to complete delimitation process before JMC Polls
2/16/2012 11:56:03 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 16: Doubting intension of state government to conduct civic bodies elections in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that instead of holding civic bodies elections in proper manner the National Conference (NC) led coalition regime was more interested in just completing this democratic exercise as a formality to get the central funds.
In a joint statement issued here today, PDP leaders expressed surprise that state government has announced to complete civic bodies elections by the end of April this year despite the fact that process of delimitation of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is still going on. "How is it possible to complete the election process before completing the delimitation process?" they asked and pointed many areas deserved to be included in the JMC limits are still not included in the JMC. They especially mentioned fast developing areas like Bithandi, Sunjwan, Chatta and some outer areas of Sainik Colony which are still excluded from the limit of JMC. PDP leaders demanded that before announcing schedule of the JMC elections, the authorities should also included these areas in the purview of JMC. PDP leaders expressed surprise earlier the state government was looking for excuses to postpone the civic bodies elections and now the government has decided to complete the whole process by the end of April this year. "Before announcing the schedule of the elections government should do the homework properly", they said and cautioned conducting elections would deny democratic right to the residents of many deserving areas. They further regretted that civic bodies elections were scheduled to be held in the month of January 2010 but the government was postponing it with one or another excuse but now the government was in a hurry to complete the process.
They observed and added that without including deserving areas in the purview of JMC would prove entire exercise as farce. Signatories of the statement are former Minister Rangil Singh, Thakur Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin and R K Bali.
