Dr Jitendra Singh focusses on young diabetics | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 16: A diabetes awareness programme cum detection camp was organized in Muthi camp on Thursday at which renowned Diabetologist and National Professor of Diabetes, Dr. Jitendra Singh led a team of doctors to examine the patients. The programme was organized by "Rahul Memorial Helpline" in collaboration with "Diabetes Care Foundation"(DCF) under the supervision of P.N. Pandita assisted by K.K. Raina and Sandeep Dhar. Giving brief resume of the programme, Dr. Jitendra Singh said that this was one of the series of programmes undertaken to focus on prevention and detection of Diabetes in young because in the first quarter of 21st century, the two major challenges facing India will be Diabetes in young and Diabetes in women. With rapidly increasing youth population in the country, if diabetes occurring at young age is not detected and managed in time, this can lead to loss of vital youth power for the nation. He referred to a number of youngsters succumbing to heart attacks and only thereafter coming to know that they had diabetes. Dr. Jitendra Singh said that the prevalence of Diabetes is fast increasing even in this part of the country and that is why Jammu has now been taken up as an important centre for gathering of diabetes data by WHO and national agencies. He also referred to the diabetes in pregnancy data provided through him from Jammu and surrounding regions which has been incorporated by WHO and DIPSI for formulation of new guidelines for detection and treatment of diabetes in pregnancy so that the next generation youngsters are spared from diabetes. At the camp, a large number of people got their blood tests done free of cost and were also provided free medicines. Vishwajeet and his team conducted the tests. |
