Bedi Commission summons Yousef's wife, 2 NC workers | | | early times report Jammu, Feb 16: Justice Bedi Commission of Inquiry probing the custodial death of NC worker Syed Mohmmad Yousef has issued summons to his wife Mansoora Akhtar and two party workers on February 26 to furnish statement on their affidavits. The summons were issued to Mansoora Akhtar, and NC workers Mohmmad Yousef of Ganderbal district and Salam Rishi of Anantnag district, Secretary to the Commission of Inquiry, Jaffar Hussain Beg said in a notification. Justice Bedi, who conducted the proceedings of the Commission, has granted time to the Chief Minister, his political Advisor Devender Rana and Minister of State for Home Affairs Nasir Aslam Wani for filing their response before February 27 to the counter-affidavit filed by family of the 61-year-old deceased, who died in police custody last year. Yusuf, also known as Haji Yusuf, was arrested on September 28 for allegedly duping people of money promising them government jobs, MLC seats and ministerial berths, citing his proximity to top NC leadership. He died the next day in custody of the crime branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police. The state government had on November 18 appointed the Bedi Commission to probe the custodial death of Yusuf and asked it to complete the probe within 6 weeks. His death had snowballed into a political controversy in the state.
