Jammu, Feb 16: The countdown for ensuing Budget session of state Legislature commencing from Feb 23 has begun with organising of Legislative Party meetings by the Political Parties , a routine exercise ahead of the session held every year. While ruling Congress has convened its meeting of Legislative Party on February 18, its alliance partner NC is scheduled to hold it next week, whereas PDP, the principle opposition party has summoned its legislators for the meeting prior to session on.......The Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone has convened All party tomorrow in which legislators of all the parties besides independent members have been invited.
Sources said ruling Congress is holding it by weekend , on Feb 18 which is quite early than the normal practice of holding such meetings by the political parties just one day ahead of beginning of the session. Sources said due to pre occupation of some leaders and legislators on account of Mahashivratri festival which falls on Feb 20, the party leadership has convened the meeting early this time. In the meeting apart from discussing Congress legislators role over some vital issues in both the Houses in the forthcoming session, the main agenda that will taken up is the poll for electing the Chairman of the Legislative Council scheduled on Feb 24. Even though it is a formality , its result being a foregone conclusion in favour of the Congress candidate, the party leadership would still discuss the floor management to be adopted on the day of election with respect to the process for electing the chairperson.
Sources said while the Congress Legislative Party meeting has been convened by the leadership at PWD Guest House Gandhi Nagar which will be followed by Dinner ,sources said . Sources also said that on the same day, senior Congress leader and PHE minister Taj Mohi-u-Din has also organised lunch, albeit only for the ministers and legislators of Congress and its allies. The lunch has been hosted at his private farm house in Jammu, sources added.
As a matter of routine practice, the Chief Minister will convene meeting of alliance partners one day ahead of session, that is on Feb 22, sources said. |
