Jammu railway station sans security | X-Ray scanning machine out of order, frisking stopped | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, Feb 17: After the recent blast in Delhi the security apparatus was put on high alert and thorough frisking of suspected people was ordered at crowded places including bus/railway stations in the National capital region. The areas frequented by foreign tourists were also put on high alert to prevent any other major strike by perpetrators of terrorist violence. In contrast, the Government railway police in Jammu and Kashmir entrusted with the task of providing security cover to all the inbound and outbound passengers/tourists have wilfully compromised with their security. For last couple of days the X-ray scanning machine installed at the portico area of the railway station has been closed down and no one stationed at the entrance for routine security duty is scanning either any luggage or frisking passengers before boarding the trains for their forward journey. It may be mentioned that each day thousands of passengers/tourists arrive at the Jammu railway station but there is no mechanism in place to scan their luggage. The junior police men stationed at the railway station when asked about the reasons for not operating the X-ray scanning machine avoided speaking on the issue. The shopkeepers on the railway station claimed that for last several days the X-ray machine has not been put to use by the security personnel. We are not aware whether the machine is not working or there is any other issue .The senior railway authorities when approached were not available at the railway station. |
