NC exploited city for own comfort, alleges Mehbooba | 'A new vision got unfolded during the previous PDP- Cong regime' | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, Feb 17: Hold-ing the present regime led by National Conference responsible for developmental deficit in the state in general and Srinagar in particular, Peoples Democratic Party President, Mehbooba Mufti Friday said that the major initiatives taken by the previous PDP- Congress government have been altogether abandoned. While addressing the Zone meetings of district Srinagar she said, "the city has been adjudged second dirtiest city in the country besides turning it into world's fastest developing slum." "The conscious citizens of the city are questioning NC as to whether the deterioration of the city could occur only in three years of Mufti regime or it has reached to the point of extinction over a period of decades of NC rule when they would rule the entire state along with the city without any challenge to their anarchical authority and mis-governance," Mehbooba alleged. She stressed that the people of Srinagar have the right to ask these 'self-styled' representatives about the plight of the city which NC boosts of being their political bastion. "A new vision had been unfolded for Srinagar city during the previous PDP- Congress coalition, she said further adding, "Dal Development Project, beatification of Jehlum river, revitalization of down town, construction of Veer Chatabal, construction of fly over, exhibition ground, Rangil water supply scheme, under ground city drainage system, beautification of Eidgah, reconstruction of Aali Masjid, beautification of Badam wari, construction of foot bridge over river Jehlum at Lalmandi, establishment of carpet weaving institute , construction of wall arround and protection of general graveyard (Malkhah) including many receiving stations and electrification of major roads included projects undertaken during three years of Mufti Sayeed's tenure despite having only one representative in Srinagar city." While as NC having representing the entire city from the eight constituencies along with MP could not give even a single mega project for Srinagar city even after completing three years of rule," she said. Speaking on the occasion party general secretary Mohammed Dilawar Mir said, "Though Srinagar has potential to become the heritage tourism capital of South Asia, given its rich and diverse cultural past, NC's exploitation and neglect of the capital city has led it to be declared as one of the most threatened heritage sites. Senior party leader and former finance minister Tariq Hameed Karra said the recent revelation of PAC of the Assembly in which crores of rupees has been diverted from the Srinagar city to other areas have further exposed the rot within the government |
