| 4 Hizb militants killed in South Kashmir | | | Anantnag |Jan 18 Four Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in a joint operation by police and security forces in Anantnag district of South Kashmir, late last night. As per the police all the killed militants were local and were active in the area from last over two years. The killing of the militants was said to be a major set back to Hizbul Mujahideen in Kulgam area. Giving details of the operation, Superintendent of Police Kulgam SP Pani told News Agency of Kashmir that acting of intelligence inputs a cordon and search operation was launched in Awgam Village by Kulgam Police, 9 Rashtriya Rifles and 142 Bn CRPF, late last night. As the search team cordoned off the village, militants opened fire on the troops in order to escape. The fire was returned leading to a fierce gunbattle. Police claimed that four militants were killed in the encounter, which lasted for more than four hours. The residential house, where the militants were hiding, was also damaged in the encounter, sources added. The slain militants were identified as Sheeraz Ahmad Lone alias Muzammil son of Abdul Gani resident of Ganavsargam, Mudasir Ahmed Dar son of Mohammed Yaseen resident of Awgam Kulgam, Rayees Ahmad Dar son of Abdul Rashid resident of Kulporsa and Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat son of Muhammad Yousuf resident of Okay Kulgam. Four AK 47 rifles, 04 UBGL, 21 AK magazines, 212 rounds, one damaged mobile set and four pouches were also recovered from the site of encounter.
