Will MLAs cooperate, let Assembly run 'peacefully'..? | 'Smooth conduct' emerges key word in All Party meeting | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 17: Even as the All Party Meeting called the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly Mohammad Akbar Lone today focused on the conduct of various political parties and their representatives during the forthcoming budget session and sought cooperation of members in running the House proceedings smoothly, the session is all set to witness aggressive and attacking strategies by the opposition on a host of issues that rocked the state recently. The key word in today's meeting was cooperation for smooth conduct of the Assembly and all members including those from opposition agreed on that but the moot point remains that in the backdrop of vital issues erupting on the political scenario of state, will the legislators sit silent and let the House business smoothly, as desired by all. At least a week before the session, all the opposition parties have firmed up their girdles and are holding discussions with the legislators on the basis of which a formal strategy would be drawn in order to adopt it when the session commences. "The opposition doesn't need to work hard this time…..the government has itself provided so many vital issues that are of immense significance in so far as the timing of the session is concerned", said a senior leader of PDP. "Government is providing everything as fodder and opposition is compiling everything meticulously to corner the government during the session. Sources said even though the legislators of the opposition parties who attended the meeting today agreed that House business was precious and would support in running the proceedings particularly the question hour , on which there was unanimity that it should not be allowed to get waste. However, no opposition party is ready nor willing to let the allies of the government to sit comfortably while the session is on. Sources said the government has sought legislators cooperation and support for they are aware it is going to be a stormy session , perhaps more than seen earlier for opposition would generate heat over some political issues in order to put the allies, mainly NC in awkward position. The Speaker in today's meeting is also learnt to have laid stress on the preparation and homework by the government on important matters and issues concerning people which are to be taken up by the MLAs during the session. The members of all the parties gave a nod for 'smooth conduct' and even ensured they would 'cooperate' but it remains to be seen what role they will actually follow once the legislature begins. |
