ACR to hold inquiry, submits report to SHRC by March
'Inmates killing' at Kot Bhalwal

Jammu, Feb 17: Deputy Commissioner Jammu has entrusted the responsibility of investigation on Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Municipality, Charandeep Singh in the alleged killing of four inmates in Kot Bhalwal, Jammu in 1993 to ascertain the facts, sources said.
Brief facts of the case is that four persons were allegedly killed and around 18 others prisoners received injuries in the firing of police in the year 1993, when some inmates including some hardcore terrorists allegedly were trying to break the Joint Interrogation Centre (JIC) .Pertinent to mention here that the JIC,Kot Bhalwal later turned into Central Jail in 1997.
Thereafter the family members of an inmate alleged that the killing was well planned ploy to eliminate some inmates who were becoming an 'eye sore' to authorities, as per sources who added that the case was take up to State Human Right Commission (SHRC).
They added that the probe was ordered to the government by SHRC, a close kin of Mushtqa Ahmed (killed ultra) alleged that the Mushtaq and others were killed by police in a well planned manner. "Mustaq Ahmed, who was killed with his colleague inmates allegedly killed while they were staging a protest inside the JIC against alleged harassment by police ", complainant alleged in his complaint to SHRC.
Based on the complaint SHRC directed the Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sanjeev Verma to investigate the incident and submit the report by March, a top official of SHRC told n preferred anonymity.
The SHRC officials stated that the issue is serious because its report has not been completed even after a long gap and the victim families were not given justice in the case, leaving a question mark on the investigating agency.
Meanwhile ACR when contacted said that he has started probe and result is to be handed over to the DC Jammu soon.
