Devika dying 'slow death' due to apathy of administration & politicians

udhampur, Feb 18: Udhampur's most popular and sacred Devika river is dying a slow death due apathy of administration & politicians who put tall claims for its savior but their tall claims of seem to fall on grounds as the sacred river calls for its survivor.
Once considered to be sacred the water of this rivulet is now unfit for drinking, bathing because of high sewage contamination, as the expert and environmentalist have warned against the use of the water.
According to local residents administration and local political leaders and those who make tall claims to keep Devika pollution free failed utterly on ground and except criticizing one another could not yield results on ground .According to Pujari and Mohtam (head) Aap Shambu temple Devika Madan lal Sharma said that every year thousands of pilgrims thrown to temple at sacred devika river to pay obeisance to Lord Shiva on Maha Shivratri but witnessing pollution here feel them otherwise and they question administration and local leaders for it who every year claim to keep it pollution free and fetch votes on Devika issue .
He alleged that sewage that is polluting the river come from the houses of those who raise hue and cry on Devika. He also criticized administration, Pollution Board and Municipal Department for not keeping check upon those who pollute river throwing garbage dumps in it.
He added that no one is sincere about Pollution of Devika and only make hue and cry to remain lime light in media. He added that temple management spent lakhs of rupees to upkeep ancient Aap Shambu temple from its limited resources but some vested interest people made hurdles time to time in its development.
Temple Pujari appeal administration to make suitable arrangement for Maha Shivratri and launch cleanness drive and security arrangement for smooth celebration. He added that Maha Shivaratri is celebrated with great devotion and religious fervor every year at ancient temple, in honor of Lord Shiva, one of the Hindu Gods forming the Trinity.
