Farooq declines to comment, Soz defends Omar | SAC questioning 'political appointments' | | Early Times Report Jammu, Feb 18: While his father and Patron of ruling National Conference declined to say anything over the State Accountability Commission questioning and contesting the political appointments made by the present government, the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was today supported by none other than the J&K PCC president Prof Saif-u-Din Soz over this fresh controversial issue enveloping the coalition. Soz said he did not see any 'wrong' having been committed by the Chief Minister in making any appointments. " I do not see anything wrong or any blunder in appointing advisors or Vice Chairmen for various Boards and Corporations…….this is not for the first time any government or Chief Minister has done so…….", Prof Soz said while speaking to media persons today before the meeting of Congress Legislative Party began this evening. Such appointments were made in the previous coalition regime by his predecessors as well, Soz said while defending Omar Abdullah. However on the other hand, Dr Farooq Abdullah too was asked this question on the sidelines of Party Working Committee meeting today at Sher-i-Kashmir Bhawan and he simply refused to make any comment. "I Do not want to make any comment over this issue….law will take its own course in the matter……", Dr Farooq Abdullah said. J&K PCC president categorically defended the Chief Minister as well the issue of appointments wherein both the alliance partners are beneficiaries in terms of their leaders or functionaries having been 'accommodated' against various posts which are being widely seen as political appointments. Howevr, Prof Soz , in a gesture to show respect for SAC said that it is a constitutional body and has full rights to function in an autonomous manner. " It must point out where there are loopholes in the system……it can also give suggestions that can help make matters of governance transparent ……", the Congress leader said. Defending the appointments, Soz said these are also essential as by making functionaries serve , the government is able to cover the areas which remain uncovered or which are nor reached out by the government in the normal course.
