Computerization of all Post Offices in J&K by next few months: CPMG | Post offices to go hi -tech | | EARL TIMES REPORT Post Office is going high-tech with a large scale computerization project in Jammu and Kashmir. 261 Departmental Post offices in Jammu and Kashmir are being computerized and networked during this year asserted John Samuel, Chief Postmaster General (CPMG) Speaking to the media persons here today, John Samuel said that department is changing for better and connecting itself with the customers in a big way. He further said that total computerization of all departmental Post Offices in J&K will be completed in the next few months. John Samuel, Chief PMG said that this conference kick-start the computerization project and reiterated that total computerization project will transform Post office into a success story. "With total computerization in place, the customers will be able to track Speed Post, Registered Post, Parcel Post and Money orders in real time. For this purpose, Department has launched many 3mbitious projects like Speed net, Rnet and Mail Networking Optimization Projects. Samuel announced that with the launch of the total computerization project, Speed Post services will be made available at all the Post offices in J&K, thus helping the people in the rural and semi-urban areas, he added. Further he said that the Department is launching a drive to introduce ICT in the rural sector, covering all the village Post Offices (Branch Post Offices) in the ensuing Plan period. Chief PMG announced that Department of Posts will be introducing Core Banking Solutions once the computerization project is complete and with this, ATM services will be available for the post office customers. Chief PMG said that a major campaign will be organized to ensure that every household in J&K has at least one Post office savings bank account, with a view to encourage 'financial inclusion'. The conference on computerization dealt with technology induction in Post office, networking, Speednet, Rnet and leT project. Chief PMG encouraged the post office staff to do all the postal operations through computers. Amit, Director Postal Services, Brij Behari, Asst Director Business Development and other officers spoke at the conference. |
