Cong remains a divided house
2/20/2012 12:00:03 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 19: The unity in vertically divided State Congress remains elusive despite the crisis and efforts. And it was again evident at a public rally organised by Revenue minister Raman Bhalla on Sunday at Gandhi Nagar.
After a long time, the picture of former PCC president and former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad was pasted along with PCC president Saif-ud-din Soz at a banner put up at the state at rally organised by Soz camp.
The banner also had pics of Sonia Gandi, Rahul Gandhi and interestingly Priyanka Gandhi also.
The banner was reflective of the fact the PCC has dropped the factionalism at a time when it's feeling the heat at the hands of the National Conference.
But despite the efforts, the rally was not attended by Azad loyalists.
Interestingly, Soz had personally asked stalwarts belonging to Azad group to attend the rally at a meeting of Congress Legislative Party held on Saturday, which was attended by all Cong legislators.
According to sources, several Azad loyalists assured Soz of doing so but on the day, they skipped the function and remained busy with other engagements.
All legislators present in the meeting did say that from now on the differences would be dropped in the interest of the party.
By skipping the rally, the Azad faction has indicated that it is still yet to come terms with Soz group, despite the efforts of the latter.
The State Cong had put up a united face days after Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed was divested of his school education portfolio by the Chief Minister.
All Congress minister had held a meeting in chamber of Deputy chief minister Tara Chand and its ramifications were discussed. This meeting was held a day before the Cabinet meeting and did manage to send the message that Cong has its act together at a time of crisis.
But as things unfolded on Sunday, the factionalism once again came to fore at the expense of the party interest.
